E-C-H-O stands for Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes. It was founded by a distinguished Professor of Medicine, Dr. Sanjeev Arora, who is also the Executive director of the Project ECHO Institute at the University of New Mexico, Albuqueque USA.
Project ECHO is an internationally recognized, evidence-based approach to continuing education and tele-mentoring that leverages the power of all participants learning and sharing together. At its core, Project ECHO is a virtual continuing medical education program for healthcare professionals. The project brings together multidisciplinary experts in the field for trainings and courses on topics that matter now.
Its education is based on real-life situations. The PDI-WEST AFRICA teleECHO is therefore a collaboration between Project ECHO® and PDI, designed to replenish the increasing knowledge vacuum being created by brain drain on the West African healthcare workforce.
Today we’re tackling critical public health issues such as maternal and child health, hypertension, diabetes, opioid use in both pregnant and parenting people, health equity, and infectious disease control and prevention etc through our specialized community health hubs.
Together, our teleECHO-trained community will further help to shift public health outcomes, particularly in West Africa’s underserved and under-resourced communities where brain drain, health disparities, poor outcomes, and limited access are most prevalent.
PreDiagnosis International otherwise known as PDI, is a private, non-governmental grassroots community healthcare initiative for Africa. PDI is specifically structured to help drive global initiatives such as United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals agenda of Universal Health Coverage – UHC, and Package of Essential Non-communicable diseases PEN by directly focusing on grassroots public healthcare. We are Africa’s leading grassroots healthcare implementation specialists. Through combining innovative ideology of modern technology of e-clinic, mobile clinic as well as walk-in clinics we are able to set up customize grassroots healthcare delivery machine to fit in with Africa’s unique terrain, the way very few organizations can.
Our drive and motivation are to find ways (every day), to reach out and help resolve early symptoms of healthcare challenges within communities; before they could get the chance to develop into hospital complications, across Africa. PreDiagnosis International was founded by Amb. (Dr) Elliott Omose, a UK based Social Entrepreneur, in 2008. We’ve been in operations for about 10yrs across Africa. Our operations extend throughout a number of African countries already; Nigeria, Gambia, Ethiopia, Sierra Leone and Liberia
The PDI-WEST AFRICA teleECHO initiative is a collaboration between Project ECHO® and PreDiagnosis International (PDI), designed to replenish the increasing knowledge vacuum being created by brain drain on the West African healthcare workforce.
It is an initiative set up to bring back the same “knowledge and expertise” that brain drain is taking away from the sub-region. But this time, it is by moving “knowledge”, and not people.
